The International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Old First Presbyterian are teaming up to meet an urgent need for asylum-seeking families at the southern border. Many of these families are taken by bus to destinations across the U.S. and left on the streets with literally nothing. The plan is to assemble travel bags for these families consisting of blankets, water bottles, wipes, activities for kids, small flashlights and more. The We Choose Welcome team at Old First will shop for the materials and the bags will be assembled on August 18 by Old First. The cost of the bags will be about $200 each and they hope to send five bags with IRC to the border.
Noe Valley Ministry has been invited to contribute toward the cost of these bags. The congregation is encouraged to make donations on the next two Sundays (7/28 and 8/4) for this purpose. Donation baskets will be at the refreshment table during coffee hour. Or you can donate through the NVM app! The session will match whatever amount the congregation collects. Any amount is welcome. Together we will make a difference.
